🇩🇴 Workshops and community lunch at Café Globen
Sunday, 22nd of March 2026
📍 Café Globen, Turesensgade 2B, 1368 København K
Spend your Sunday immersed in the rhythms of the Dominican Republic as Bachata Dominicana Copenhagen invites you to a day of workshops and good vibes at the cozy and globally-minded Café Globen in the heart of Copenhagen.
Whether you're brand new to the dance or an experienced Bachater@ ready to refine your style, there’s something for you.
📚 Workshop Schedule
Bachata – 11:00–12:00
Already comfortable with the basic rhythm? In this session, we focus on refining your personal style.
We’ll work on:
Body movement
Musical interpretation
Footwork improvisation
Clear, responsive partner connection
Expect thoughtful guidance, individual feedback, and tools to help you grow as a dancer.
If you are completely new to the dance style - you are still very welcome to join, but we want to make sure you know this is not a workshop tailored to beginners. Some things might be more detailed or explained more/less, so just keept that in mind. If you are in doubt if you should join - don't hesitate to reach out to us for a short chat.
Merengue – 12:00–13:00
Merengue is the national dance of the Dominican Republic, and also one of the dances that came before Bachata.
Merengue is a fun and engaging dance style, where the focus is more on dancing with your partner and less on learning complicated steps.
We always say - if you can walk, you can Merengue.
This dance style is perfect for you if you are new to partner dancing, or if you want to enjoy a fun dance without having to think so much about combinations.
We'll be dancing to a mix of slow and fast-paced songs.

🎶 What is Bachata?
Bachata is a traditional music and dance style from the Dominican Republic, rooted in Afro-Caribbean rhythms, heartfelt lyrics, and social connection. Unlike modern ballroom or sensual styles, Bachata from the Dominican Republic emphasizes rhythm, footwork, improvisation, and a relaxed, natural partner connection. It’s about feeling the music and expressing it—your way.
💃 About Bachata Dominicana Copenhagen
A community passionate about sharing the depth and joy of traditional Bachata. Mette’s teaching is rooted in musicality, cultural understanding, and individual growth—welcoming, detailed, and full of rhythm and heart.
☕ About Café Globen
Café Globen is Copenhagen’s one-of-a-kind travel café—a volunteer-run space where global culture meets local community. With its laid-back vibe and eclectic charm, it’s the perfect venue for dancing, connecting, and enjoying something from the bar between workshops.
Come and dance. Stay for the community.
We can’t wait to see you on the floor at Café Globen! 💛

In Bachata Dominicana Copenhagen we teach dance styles from the Dominican Republic such as Bachata and Merengue with occasional inspiration from Bolero, Son Dominicano and Dembow. And we have a strong desire do share the roots and history of the dance we love, aswell as paying tribute to the culture it comes from.
We are a continuously growing, a diverse community with different nationalities and culture. We strive to make it a brave and inclusive place, with space for trial and error. You are encouraged to play and try things out to see what works best for you – whether you’d like to lead or follow, is up to you!
Bachata Dominicana Copenhagen (BDC) was created by Lærke Birk in 2020. She did sporadic events while strongly affected by a global pandemic – in 2022 it became a joint adventure with Mette Larsen who then took over in 2023 when Lærke decided to retreat from the project (but with her continued support of the events and activities).
To keep our knowledge and inspiration fresh, we frequently participate in Dominican Festivals around the world as well as instructor courses and visiting the Island.
Hope to see you on the dance floor soon! 🕺💃
